Playground Project: Sillacancha School

This year has been important for the Llama Pack Project as we have accomplished many goals, strengthened our partnerships and we are now facing bigger challenges with great motivation.

As a great welcome gift to this coming year, the Alternative Study Abroad group from Central Michigan University is collaborating with the project thanks to the awesome work that Kaya Volunteer Organization has put together.

The group is implementing a beautiful school playground for the children of the llama breeding families that we work with to have a healthy playing environment. This specific action is a major stepping stone in what we are sure will become a long lasting bond with the children and the school principal. All this is greatly important as we have partnered with 5 community schools to help implement environmental education for local children.

The Llama Pack Project supports these schools because we strongly believe that it is through the children that our main goals will be sustainable in time. Through specific actions we aim to contribute to spreading the message of respect for the environment and pride in local customs.

Sillacancha Public School is located in the town of Huaran which is part of the Sacred Valley. This is the school of 200 primary school children, most of which live in high-Andean communities at a 4 hour walking distance with no road access.

The school principal is very grateful for this contribution and we are looking forward to see the final result and specially the smiles in the children´s faces when they come back to start a new school year.

Colegio Sillacancha: Mejorando el Patio

Este ha sido un año importante para el Proyecto Llama Pack ya que hemos cumplido varias metas, fortalecido nuestras alianzas y ahora enfrentamos nuevos y más grandes retos con gran motivación.

A manera de un gran regalo de bienvenida a este nuevo año, el grupo de Estudios Alternativos de Central Michigan University está colaborando con el proyecto gracias a la gran gestión realizada por la organización Kaya Volunteer.

El grupo está implementando una linda zona de juegos para que los hijos de las familias con quienes trabajamos puedan pasar sus recreos en un ambiente acogedor y saludable.

Esta acción específica es un importante eslabón para afianzar una relación con los niños y la escuela que estamos seguros tendrá grandes resultados. Esto es muy importante para el proyecto ya que hemos iniciado alianzas con 5 escuelas comunitarias para implementar módulos de educación ambiental para los niños locales.

El Proyecto Llama Pack apoya estas escuelas porque creemos firmemente que es a través de los niños que nuestras metas serán sostenibles a largo plazo. Mediante acciones específicas buscamos transmitir el respeto al medio ambiente y el orgullo por la identidad propia y nuestra herencia cultural.

La escuela pública de Sillacancha se encuentra en el Valle Sagrado y es la segunda casa de 200 niños de primaria quienes en su mayoría viven en comunidades alto-Andinas a las que llegan caminando durante 4 horas.

El director de la escuela está muy agradecido con el aporte del grupo y esperamos con ansias el resultado final y ver los rostros de los niños cuando inicien el nuevo año escolar.
